ELIXIR presents vocalist SHAREN CONNER and MO'JAZZ - Thurs. May 15th

ELIXIR at The Freight House, White River Junction’s premier destination for fine dining and live music, presents the return of vocalist SHAREN CONNER and MO’JAZZ, with NORM WOLFE on guitar and GARY MATTHEWS on bass, in an evening of stylishly performed classic standards on Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 6:30 to 9:30pm.  Call ELIXIR at 802-281-7009 for reservations.  There is no cover charge for the music.

 

Vocalist Sharen Conner leads the trio known as MO’JAZZ which includes Norm Wolfe on guitar and Peter Concilio on upright bass.  After earning a BA in Music from Bennington College, Sharen did her graduate studies in jazz voice at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She has been performing in the Upper Valley for the past 25 years and was a founding member of Sensible Shoes.  She later formed the a cappella trio called Him and Hers.  With her quintet AC&S (“aces”), Sharen produced a CD of original music.  She has performed most recently with the band Mood Swings and has sung in places as diverse as Aspen, Colorado and Ciascais, Portugal.

 

Guitarist Norm Wolfe was born and raised in Morrisville, VT.  He migrated to the Upper Valley in 1973 when he began a 29-year stint teaching instrumental music for the Hartford School District.   Since 2002 he has been employed by the Dresden School District, where he is in charge of Sixth Grade Band and High School Band, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band.  He began playing the guitar in 1965 and has played in a number of rock bands, including Rockslide during the ‘80s and ‘90s.  He currently performs the jazz repertoire with six duos and several small combos and occasionally performs with the Vermont Jazz Ensemble.  Norm has studied guitar with Draa Hobbs and is currently studying with David Newsam.

 

Bassist Gary Matthews is a highly respected music teacher in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom.  A Derby Line resident for many years, he served as the Vermont Allstate Jazz Band Manager.  Gary performs with many groups, especially in the summer, when he plays at the Basin Harbor Resort on Lake Champlain with the trio Moment's Notice.
